Daniel Philipp Witte



Daniel Philipp Witte is an emerging talent in the repertoire of the german Helden-Fach.

Recently, he was chosen to sing as the only tenor in the finals of the 8th International Vocal Competition für Wagnerian Voices in Karlsruhe.

The french foundation Royaumont invited him to France , where he worked with Waltraud Meier and Vincent Huguet (assistant of Patrice Chéreau) on the role of Tannhäuser.

Born in Hamburg (Germany), he started his vocal studies as a baritone with Wagnerian Soprano             Prof. Renate Behle at Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg, where he graduated in 2010.

    He is now coached by Carol Meyer-Bruetting in Frankfurt (Main) and is currently working on the tenor-repertoire of his Fach (e.g. Siegmund, Max, Parsifal) with the well-known dramatic soprano Deborah Polaski.

        He was selected by the Bayreuther Festspiele to work in a masterclass on his Wagnerian roles with tenor Johan Botha in Bayreuth in summer 2014.   

        The young tenor was accepted at the „Wagner Academy“ of the International Vocal Competition (IVC) in´s-Hertogenbosch (NL) and recieved coachings for the wagnerian repertoire by masters like tenor Siegfried Jerusalem and baritone Wolfgang Brendel.

He was invited back to the Netherlands for a concert series of Liszt songs.

    He appeared as a guest in opera productions at Hamburg State Opera, Opera Kiel, Volkstheater Rostock, Gerhart Hauptmann-Theater Görlitz/Zittau and Landestheater Neustrelitz.

The young tenor performed his first Siegfried in the children's production of Richard Wagner's "Der Ring des Nibelungen" at Hamburg State Opera in April 2013 and returned for this role in spring 2014.

Concerts include appearances as a soloist at the festival "La folle journée" in Nantes (France) and Bilbao (Spain), as well as in the concert Halls in Cologne and Hamburg.

Daniel Philipp Witte recorded the opera "Der vierjährige Posten" by Franz Schubert in 2008 under the baton of Christoph Spering.

He was rewarded with scholarships and prizes by the Richard-Wagner-Verband, Oscar und Vera Ritter-Stiftung and Villa Musica Rheinland-Pfalz.

In 2012 he was a finalist at Europe's greatest national vocal competition "Bundeswettbewerb Gesang" in Berlin.

He also worked with singers and pianists like Edith Mathis, Robert Holl, Irwin Gage and Rudolf Jansen.
